Farm week! Tot School

This week for tot school we had a farm theme! I keep things super simple, usually doing music, crafts, reading, and sensory play. My son is 2.5 years old and is very interested in learning! He loves books, and music and trying to do puzzles.

Books!
This week we checked out a bunch of books for school. I also got some older kid books for my 5.5-year-old so he felt included! I'll include links to Amazon as well, but we got ours from the library!

The Little Red Hen (Makes a Pizza) written by Philomen Sturges and illustrated by Amy Walrod. This book was very cute with a twist on a classic!

Down on the Farm
Down on the Farm was written by Merrily Kutner and illustrated by Will Hillenbrand. This book is simple, easy for toddlers to follow, and teaches them animal sounds.

Down by the Barn written and illustrated by Will Hillenbrand. Another simple to follow book for toddlers.

Duck on a Bike by David Shannon. This is a cute book where a duck decides to ride a bike and before you know it, all the animals on the farm are riding bikes!

Duck on a Tractor written by David Shannon and is a follow up to Duck on a Bike. The duck has conquered riding a bike, so he tries his hand at riding a tractor!

The next two books I got for my oldest...they're more informative, and he was really interested in knowing how things work on a farm! I only got him two books on farms, because he wanted other books for bedtime reading, and he's in kindergarten so he's not home all day anymore (I'm still sad by this sometimes!)

Farming by Gail Gibbons. This book was more informative than I thought it would be, but it was very interesting! D loved learning all of the facts.

Farm Machines by Kathryn Clay. D really loved this book, because he loves anything with wheels and he loves learning how things work.

Crafts
Handprint red hens! This was a super quick, and easy craft to do. I like working with handprints because it's a good sensory activity. My oldest has some sensory sensitivities (hates his hands messy/sticky, but he's getting better!) so I have been well versed in trying to work on sensory activities. We did this craft after reading The Little Red Hen (Makes a Pizza)

Another quick, easy, and cute craft idea. handprint corn on the cobs!

Tractor painting! He did a handful of these, he really liked using a  tractor to paint!

Puzzles/Sensory
Floor puzzle can be bought Here

I used popcorn kernels and hid some puzzle pieces in them and made S sift through them to pull the pieces out and complete the puzzle. I love this activity, it *can* get messy, so beware!

This was oatmeal that I put in a tub and ut a tractor and some other vehicles and scoopers in and let him go to town. This can also be messy!

Songs
Fun farm songs! can be found here! Old MacDonald is obviously a classic but there are so many other songs you can do for a farm theme!

Next week is pumpkin week in our house! I will be sure to post activities, books, and more! Stay tuned!
