Dino week!

Hey gals and guys! So this week it's back to the grind for homeschool! This week is Dino week. I had this written down in my file crate I have for themes, and didn't expect to do it this week, BUT we found some great stuff at Target in the dollar spot this past weekend and decided it was a good week for it! In this post, there will be a lot of links. I promise I do not get paid for promotions, etc. these are just some places that carry what I have (some of what I have anyway) just in case you want to purchase anything!

This is some of the stuff I had on hand to do my dino week!

Books:

National Geographic Little Kids First Big Book of Dinosaurs Available at Amazon

Oh Say Can You Say Di-no-saur?: All About Dinosaurs (Cat in the Hat's Learning Library) Amazon

Dino Chomp! Amazon

^ This book I got at Toys R Us but can't seem to find it on the website, I purchased it in my local store!

The Dinosaurs! book at the top of the picture was a Target dollar spot find! It was $1! Obviously it's shorter but for $1, my boys love it!

The dinosaur toys were hand me downs for my awesome nephew!

The Dinosaur fossil and fossil excavation are in the middle, and they also came from the Target dollar spot! I did have to go to two Targets to find the stuff I was looking for, but I live smack between them, so it wasn't a big deal. :) And honestly who doesn't love Target, let alone the Dollar Spot?!

We focused on the letter "D." Now with tracing lines, Sport does great, but when doing letters sometimes it touch and go. He's a perfectionist, like me, so he gets very frustrated if he doesn't think it's perfect. He *can* write and trace, but sometimes he just fights it.

WRITING

This *AWESOME* dinosaur pre-writing worksheet was free, and it was in a huge packet. I absolutely love using Pinterest to find different ideas, blogs, etc. I do make some of my own worksheets, but I love to see other people's as well! The worksheet and packet can be found Here! I laminated some of them just so we could reuse them, and have them as backups! I was so glad to have found that free packet!

MATH

This worksheet I got for free from Teachers Pay Teachers! You can find this printable Here! TPT is another one of my favorite websites! They have so many themes and worksheets!

I made this worksheet myself just using Word.  It was too easy for him, which is why I went and got the bigger sheets from other places, all the way up to 12, and he got them all!

ART

Our Target find! He normally gets board after 2.5 seconds of painting, but he painted the entire thing, and wanted more. This was a huge win and I'm almost positive only cost me $3! It came with a cute matching dinosaur too!

(This is the only picture I have, it's only Wednesday so the week isn't finished yet!)
More art activities...
  • Dino stamping, by dipping the dinosaur feet into paint and making foot prints on paper.
  • Dinosaur skeleton drawn on black paper with chalk
  • Paint/markers used to create your own dinosaur

SCIENCE/OTHER
Dinosaur fossil excavation! He loved this, but I had to help a lot, which I completely expected, but to see how excited he was to uncover this fossil was worth it! :)

Sensory play with rice and dinosaurs! I love when they can both do an activity like this! Rice normally keeps them occupied for a while, but Sport was so excited he only played for about 10 minutes, still, if you knew Sport, you would consider this a victory! :)

Vinegar and baking soda are loved very much around here. Throw in playdoh and it's sure to be hit! Tomorrow we will be doing volcanoes that erupt! If I remember to get pictures, I will!

I have so many other sensory and science things to choose from and I'm not sure which to pick!

CIRCLE TIME

On Monday, we did our normal calendar stuff, sang our days of the week, ABC's, the normal. And then I asked Sport to tell me what he knew about dinosaurs....these were his answers!

My favorite answer there? "They have chomping action!" he said it with such conviction and excitement, I had to write it down!

Squirt loves his books. He wanted to join in on school and who was I to tell him no? After all, it is *technically* his book, haha.

We read our books.

We learned dinosaur names (he's covering up the pronunciation of this one to see if I could say it!)

He can now say "heterodontosaurus!"

We are just halfway through the week, and so far it is going so well! We could do dinosaurs for an entire month and still learn more! It's holding his attention very well too, which is always a win!

This weekend we will be doing our family movie night with a dinosaur movie, I might need suggestions! We've already done The Good Dinosaur, so if you have any ideas, leave them in the comments below! Also, we happen to be going to storytime when they will be reading a story about dinosaurs, what are the odds?! (No, I had no clue, I promise!)

Any questions? Comments? Concerns? Leave them below and I'll be sure to get back to you! We will be finishing Dinos this week, and next week we will be moving on to rainy weather, I think! Thanks for reading, happy learning!
